About Jim

My full name is James Allen Foerster

My Burning Man playa name is Jim-dandy!
I prefer it spelled with a hyphen, lower case "d", with emphasis, and an exclamation point.
It should be spoken with enthusiasm!

Jimmy, age 5 Art and Mary, Jim's parents

I was born on 31 March 1958 - so that makes me an Aries.  I was born and grew up in Fargo, North Dakota.  I have six siblings: two brothers and four sisters (shown below) and I'm the youngest.  My parents (both deceased) were loving and caring and my siblings and I grew up to be loving and caring too.  In this image below, in order of age, from left to right, are my siblings and I, Teri, Ron, Dave, Mary, Dar, Sue, and Jim:

My siblings & I: Teri, Ron, Dave, Mary, Dar, Sue, & Jim, 2007

I'm single (divorced), have no children, and live alone (with one Zebra finch and one Society finch in a really big flight cage).

From 1991 to 2018, I worked as a Biological Science Technician at the USDA, Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Northwest Irrigation and Soils Research Laboratory in Kimberly, Idaho.  Before that, from 1987 to 1991, I worked as a Science Technician at the Citrus and Subtropical Products Research Laboratory, an ARS research lab that was in Winter Haven, Florida.  But I'm now retired after 31 years.

I'm not a professional photographer, but since I have been an amateur photographer since 1978 (that's over 40 years!), I consider myself an experienced photographer.  I do all my own photography, digital image editing, and web page design.  For the images on this site, I used a Fuji FinePix Z3 camera to shoot the images, Corel PHOTO-PAINT to edit them, CuteHTML to write the code for these web pages, and BreezeBrowserPro [www.breezesys.com] to create the slide shows in the image gallery.

A favorite excerpt from lyrics of Cat Stevens'
The Boy With a Moon And Star on His Head
from Catch Bull at Four

. . . and people would ride from far and wide
just to seek the word he spread,
"I'll tell you everything I've learned"
and love is all he said . . .

A favorite excerpt from lyrics of Natalie Cole
Nature Boy
from Unforgettable With Love
(A song by Eden Ahbez, published in 1947)

. . . the greatest thing
you'll ever learn
is just to love
and be loved, in return . . .

A favorite excerpt from lyrics of Jethro Tull
Wond'ring Aloud
from Aqualung

. . . and it's only the giving
that makes you,
what you are . . .

May love flourish.
